About Your Procedure

Would you like more more information about an upcoming exam?
Please selected the type of test you are interested in from the list below:

Magnetic Resonance Imaging and/or Angiography (MRI or MRA)
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a noninvasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions. MR imaging uses a powerful magnetic field, radio frequency pulses and a computer to produce detailed pictures of organs, soft tissues, bone and virtually all other internal body structures. The images can then be examined on a computer monitor, transmitted electronically, printed or copied to a CD. MRI does not use ionizing radiation (x-rays). Detailed MR images allow physicians to better evaluate various parts of the body and determine the presence of certain diseases that may not be assessed adequately with other imaging methods such as x-ray, ultrasound or computed tomography (also called CT or CAT scanning).
Computed Tomography (CT)
Mission Medical’s multi-slice helical CT scanner uses “smartscan” technology to minimize radiation doses while providing exceptional image quality. CT uses a very thin X-ray beam and an electronic detector coupled to a powerful computer system to render images of both bone and soft tissue. Unlike plain X-ray, CT does not suffer from having overlapping structures as information is acquired in “slices”. An iodine containing contrast material may be used during the performance of the scan to better assess certain tissues.
This valuable technology offers an exciting way to visualize many parts of the body without the use of ionizing radiation. Ultrasound utilizes very high frequency sound waves, much like sonar, to create detailed images of organs such as the kidney, liver, gallbladder and pancreas. Ultrasound is also often used to assess the health of a fetus during pregnancy. At Mission Medical ultrasound is also being utilized to examine musculoskeletal structures such as the rotator cuff and tendons of the foot and hand. Ultrasound’s unique ability to tell how fast and in what direction blood is flowing also makes it valuable in determining the health of certain blood vessels in the body.
Plain X-Rays
Mission uses direct digital X-ray to produce crystal clear images with extremely low radiation doses. These digital images are then viewable by your physician on special monitors. No appointment is necessary, simply bring your order from your physicain and stop in when it is convenient.
Nuclear Medicine
Using a very small amount of radioactive material which is carried by a special chemical agent designed to locate specific tissue types in the body, this examination helps reveal information about the bones, heart, and digestive track as well as other body systems. The amount of radiation is often less than normal “background” radiation. If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to call our Nuclear Department at 503-362-0254.
Nuclear Cardiac Stress Testing
During this examination a tiny amount of a radioactive element is traced as it spreads through the heart muscle and can reveal a great deal about potential heart disease and any injury to the heart itself. The examination may require you to exercise briefly under physician supervision. The nuclear cardiac images at Mission are interpreted by a specially trained cardiologist who has expertise in the performance and interpretation of this specialized test.
